This is a fabulous little product! Using the basic concepts of early valve radio, utilising transistors in other stages and a modern integrated circuit to make the final amplification, this radio transcends the ages of electronic innovation. Instructions are straightforward but the photographs in the leaflet are reproduced sub-optimally and are best viewed on the web-site (www.eight-innovation.com/dir/instructions). Soldering is a little tricky so learn on something else beforehand if you are not familiar (ten minutes practice after watching YouTube should do!) Have a pair of wire strippers / cutters and some small pliers to hand and you are ready to go. A basic explanation of the circuit is provided but for the curious this could benefit from taking a deeper dive. It is one thing to assemble items but the real joy comes from an understanding of how things actually work – at least for me that is. Don't expect too much though! This is how radios used to work and they take time and patience to get a signal through – it's nothing like a modern-day equivalent! A delightful project that offers a practical approach to learning and development: from teenagers to my age – 70! Highly recommended.
